What’s attracting Millennials to Raleigh, North Carolina?

Raleigh, NC is a well diversified hippie city which attracts newer generations such as Millennials. This is partly due to high tech job opportunities and strong reputable nearby schools such as Duke in Durham, North Carolina State University, William Peace University, and UNC Chapel Hill.

According to Estately “… Raleigh has a bright future. In addition to having a lot of young singles, Raleigh also has a lot of jobs for aforementioned singles. With consistent job growth and three colleges nearby to help bolster the nightlife and ensure a rich rental market, Raleigh caters to the youngest end of the Millennial generation, who are just looking to get started.” – 11 Best Cities for Broke Millennials

As a Millennial you will have the opportunity to experience some of the wonderful things Raleigh has to offer.

Walkable Neighborhoods

If moving to Raleigh has been on your mind and you are considering a walkable neighborhood, you may want to consider communities such as North Hills, Cameron Village, etc.

The popular historic Cameron Village community has many advantages; for example, you will be walking distance from Cameron Village shopping center (first shopping center between Washington D.C. and Atlanta), Cameron Village Library and restaurants such as Carolina Cafe, Chick Fil-A, and Gonza Mexican Restaurant in Hillsborough Street.

If you are a current student and/or seeking higher education, Cameron Village is close to schools such as North Carolina State University and William Peace University.

Although moving to such neighborhoods may seem very attractive and appealing to some, there are other factors that should be considered before making that move.

Advantages

Walkable neighborhoods could be an advantage if you are considering the following;

Affordability – getting around could be more affordable

Accessibility – travel may be more accessible

Higher economic productivity – contributing the local economic growth

Physical health – walking, biking or running could be beneficial

Healthier environment – less pollution due to less driving

Disadvantages

You may also want to consider the drawbacks or disadvantages when moving into a walkable neighborhood; for instance, due to the desirability and popularity of such neighborhoods, the cost of living tends to increase more compared to non-walkable neighborhoods.

Consider pros and cons

Whether you are deciding to move into a walkable neighborhood or not, you may want to consider the pros and cons and make a sound decision based your current circumstance and lifestyle. In general, if you are considering making a move, consider the following tips:

Plan ahead – Think about your future and where you want to be.

Save and invest more – Buying at an early age has great advantages, but only if you can afford it. Saving is everything!

Live below your means – Have a yearly budget in place that is aligned with your current lifestyle.

The City of Raleigh is a developing city full of love, passion and diversity; your contributions to the overall growth of Raleigh is greatly appreciated and never taken lightly!
